The "Shtooka Project" is a cooperative project with the goal of creating audio material and software tools used to learn foreign languages. The first and most important step is to put in place a set of audio collections (like the "Audio Collection of French words") with corresponding linguistic data and the necessary tools to make the most of them.
- 25/10/2007 : Shtooka Repeat 0.9 is online
- A setup program for Shtooka Repeat 0.9 (a program meant for the vocabulary learning) is available on our website.
- 23/10/2007 : The new website is online!
- Shtooka.net has got a new website which unifies all the part of our project (software, format, audio collections).

- 22/10/2007 : Recording of 600 German words
- Today, 600 German words from a list of 1200 basics words has been recorded and uploaded. These words have been pronounced by Alexandra Poelzlbauer, an Austrian student from Vienna.
- 17/10/2007 : Recording of more than 3000 Czech words
- 3 packages of Czech words have been uploaded (including a collection of numerals). These audio files has been recorded by Ivana and Veronika, two students from Czech Republic.

SWAC Metatags is a fields naming scheme which enables to store the information used by audio collections of words and sentences. These collections can be useful for pedagogic and can illustrate electronic dictionaries.

Online Consultation
Our website www.swac-collections.org enables the online consultation of SWAC audio collections. Currently, more than 45 000 words and sentences (in French, Deutch, English, Swedish, Czech, Chinese, German) are available on the server.
Software
Swac Tools
Swac Tools is a set of programs for GNU/Linux written in C++ that allows to get the most of words audio collections (SWAC). At the moment, there are 3 programs:
- swac-get which enables the loading into a SQLite3 database of audio collections.
- swac-explore which allows to browse the database and listen audio files.
- swac-play a simple command line player for SWAC audio collections.

Shtooka Explorer
Shtooka Explorer is a program that enables the browsing of audio collections of words (SWAC). These collections of words can be on your own computer but you can also get sound files directly from the Internet. There are currently more than 75 000 words in our server (fra, eng, dut, deu, chi, swe, rus, bel, ukr).

Shtooka Recorder
Shtooka Recorder is a program for Microsoft Windows which allows automated recording of the pronunciation of many words, expressions, and/or sentences from a list. (One can record an average of 500 words in 20 minutes). It can save audio files in the following formats: .wav .ogg .flac (including Vorbis Comment tag).
This program is distributed and licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL).

Yazik Recorder
Yazik Recorder, like Shtooka Recorder, is a program that enables the recording of listings of words and expressios. This program, originally written for Linux in Language Python is portable for other Operating Systems.

Shtooka Repeat is a program for Windows (2000, XP...) that enables the creation of little audio dictionaries using SWAC audio collections. This can help you to learn vocabulary.

Shtooka Scanner
Shtooka Scanner (shtooka-scan) is a simple command line program that enables the extracting of information encapsulated in Vorbis Comment tags of all audio files Flac and Ogg contained in one or several directories. It enables the easy generation of text index for SWAC audio collections.
